Lake
I set out for a long stroll through the dunes to this lake. I already knew beforehand that I wanted to go here because of the beautiful scenery, but the real joy was actually in the journey to the lake. I know it sounds cliché, but it's the truth. The destination itself isn't the goal. The real goal is to enjoy the journey.
The joy was in the unexpected things I encountered underway. Around 10 minutes or so into my stroll, I saw some wild horses and Highland Cows. I love these longhaired, brown, stoic animals with horns. I could approach the cows quite close, but not too close because then they would stand up and move to let me know that I shouldn't come any closer.
The second surprise would come to me when I went off of the main path at one point and tried to find my way to the lake. This really wasn't a success, because there was a large dune standing in the middle of the way. I thought the lake was just behind the dune, so I decided to climb it, but in the end, it turned out to be that on the other side, the dune was too steep, so I couldn't go down that way. I had to find another route to go down. The reward, however, was a great view of the environment.
On my way back down, I saw some bones and a skull. It took me by surprise and I was scared for a split second because I thought it was human, but then I looked closer and saw that it was probably just a deer, that was too old or the poor animal probably starved to death. I've never seen something like that before. I guess these are things you will only see when you go off the main path I guess. I also remembered why I'm not really the adventurous type, because, for the rest of my time off the path, I kept thinking: "I hope I'm not going to encounter any more dark stuff or other unpleasant surprises."
I'm not gonna lie, when I reached the lake, it was actually quite nice to just relax there and enjoy the reward of the long walk. However, the excitement of going there was more fun than actually getting there. Because when I got there, I kept thinking about going all the way back to where I started. So I quickly got up and walked back and this time I chose to stick to the main path.
